wxrks measures how much translation volume your account processes, and every plan includes a set amount of that volume. This article explains what actually counts as Raw Processed Volume (RPV), how Machine Translation and LLM AI usage are tracked separately from it, how to read your Usage panel, and what happens if your account goes over its plan's limit.

💡 Who is this for? This guide is for Account Admin who needs to understand what counts toward the account's word usage and what happens when it exceeds the plan's limit within the wxrks platform.

Raw Processed Volume (RPV) is the total word volume generated by every Work Unit across every project in your account. It's the number your plan's included word allowance is measured against.

Any file uploaded for translation counts toward your RPV as soon as it's processed — regardless of whether the project is later finished, cancelled, or deleted. Reference files, glossaries, and Translation Memories do not count, since they aren't themselves translated.

A Work Unit is the combination of one asset, one workflow step, and one target language. Every time one of these combinations is created for a project, wxrks generates a work unit carrying that step's word count — so a project's total RPV comes out to its source word count multiplied by however many workflow steps and target languages it has.

For example, a project with two assets, two target languages, and a two-step workflow (Translation and Review) creates 8 work units:

With 500 source words per asset and 8 work units (2 assets × 2 languages × 2 steps), the project's RPV is:

500 words × 8 work units = 4,000 words.

The same math scales up for larger projects — for example, 10,000 source words across 3 workflow steps and 2 language pairs comes out to 10,000 × 3 × 2 = 60,000 words of RPV.

Work units for steps that don't go through the Editor — such as DTP or QA — are generally not counted toward RPV the way Translation and Review steps are. If a specific step's impact on your usage isn't clear, ask in the wxrks Community or reach out to [email protected].

Your Usage panel also reports how much content ran through Machine Translation and through LLM AI — the AI models behind Augmented Actions and any connected OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or Gemini provider. These numbers exist so you can see how much of your work is AI-assisted, but they are informational: only Work Unit volume counts toward your plan's included RPV allowance — Machine Translation and LLM AI usage do not add to it.

To see your account's current usage, go to Settings > Account Settings > Usage. The page can take a few seconds to load.

The Usage Metrics panel shows three cards for the selected period:

Use the Current Month / Last 3 Months / Last 6 Months / Last 12 Months buttons to change the period, and the toggle next to them to switch between the table view above and a Line Chart or Bar Chart of the same data over time. The ⋮ menu lets you download the raw usage events for the last 30, 60, or 90 days as a JSON file.

If your RPV exceeds the word volume included in your plan, wxrks measures the overage and, depending on your subscription, either bills you for the extra words or pauses further processing until the account is upgraded. How it's measured depends on your billing cycle:

Monthly plans — usage is measured per billing month. Any words processed beyond your monthly allowance are billed at the end of that cycle.

Annual plans — usage accumulates across the full 12-month term (an annual allowance is effectively 12× the equivalent monthly one). If your total RPV exceeds that annual allowance, the overage is billed once the limit is crossed or at renewal, whichever comes first.

Most standard paid subscriptions are billed for the overage rather than interrupted — wxrks' current published plans list per-word overage rates that get cheaper at higher tiers (for example, $0.0009/word on the entry-level Starter plan versus $0.0003/word on Clockwork and above, per wxrks.com's pricing page at the time of writing — check that page or your plan's checkout screen for your account's actual rate, since it varies by tier and can change). Some plans, including free/trial accounts, are instead configured to pause processing once usage is significantly over the limit until you upgrade.

Either way, an Account Admin gets an email as usage approaches the limit (around 80% of the allowance) and again if it's exceeded, so an overage or pause is never a surprise. A work unit's word count is generated the moment wxrks processes the file — cancelling or deleting the project afterward doesn't reverse that. wxrks accounts for this when setting RPV thresholds, since a meaningful share of uploaded work is statistically cancelled or abandoned before completion.
