The Actions/Options bar sits directly above the work unit table on a project's Overview tab. It's where you import and export files, join or split work units, run bulk actions like translating or generating a logfile, and customize or filter the table itself.
💡 Who is this for? This guide is for Project Managers and Account Admins who need to import, export, translate, and manage a project's work units within the wxrks platform.
The bar at a glance
Seven controls sit in this bar: Import/Export, Join in Editor, Split file, Upload file, Actions, Columns, and Filters. A short-lived eighth element — a pre-translation progress bar — appears in its place once a project has been approved and starts auto-translating.
1. Import/Export
The Import/Export dropdown has three sections: Export, Import, and Work Package.
1.1 Export
Pick a format, then a scope:
Source Files downloads the project's original files, exactly as uploaded.
Translated Files downloads the current translated version of each file.
XLIFF and XLSX download bilingual working files in that format — useful when you need to translate or review outside wxrks. See How to Export/Import XLIFF files from/to wxrks for the full round-trip: exporting, working in another CAT tool, and importing the result back.
Loc-kit (others types) bundles multiple formats together in one download, including a TMX file. That TMX only contains segments pre-translated with your TM — it isn't a full export of the TM itself.
Once you've picked a format, choose the scope: Whole project at workflow exports every file at a workflow step you pick, and Selected Work Units exports only the rows you've checked in the table (they must all share the same workflow step).
1.2 Import
Bulk import zip uploads several XLIFF or XLSX files into wxrks at once — compress them into a single .ZIP first. You can choose whether imported segments should be automatically confirmed as they come in. See How to Export/Import XLIFF files from/to wxrks for what confirming on import does to Translation Memory and downstream workflow steps.
1.3 Work Package
A Work Package sends a project — including its current segment confirmations and a copy of its Translation Memory and Glossary — to a project in a different wxrks account. Send Work Package for selected work units sends only the checked rows; Send Work Package for all project work units sends everything remaining. Both options need an accepted connection with the destination account first, and only work once the project is Approved. See Send Projects Between wxrks Accounts with Work Packages for setting up that connection and the full sending/receiving/delivery flow.
2. Join in Editor
Select two or more work units that share the same target language and workflow step, then click Join in Editor to open all of them together in the wxrks Editor in one session, instead of switching between files one at a time.
3. Split file
Select a single work unit and click Split file to divide its segments into smaller parts — useful for a large file you want to assign to more than one vendor, or track as independent pieces. This button is only enabled while the project is in Draft or Pending status. The full walkthrough — including how the parts behave afterward — lives in Split a Work Unit into Multiple Parts.
4. Upload file
Upload file creates a new work unit in the project. A 3-step modal walks you through it: pick the target language(s), choose the workflow the new file should go through (it can differ from the project's other files), then select the file(s) to upload — more than one file can be selected here, but they'll all use the target language(s) and workflow you just picked.
⚠️ This button is only enabled while the project is in Draft status.
5. Actions
The Actions dropdown groups four bulk actions. Each of the first three lets you choose Whole project at workflow (act on every work unit at a workflow step) or Selected Work Units (act only on the rows you've checked).
5.1 Translate
Auto-translates the target work units using the project's Translation Settings — whichever of Context Sensitive, Machine Translation, and Translation Memory are enabled there. This is the same process that runs automatically right after a project is approved (see Pre-translation progress bar below); running it manually from here is how you re-translate after fixing a setting, updating your TM, or adding new work units later.
5.2 Copy source to target where empty
Fills every still-empty target segment with its source content, unchanged. This is mainly useful for language pairs that are identical or very close (for example Portuguese (Brazil) and Portuguese (Portugal)), where large parts of the source can stand in as a starting translation.
5.3 Logfile
Creates a new Logfile — wxrks' word/character/segment analysis, used for quotes and vendor payments. Whole Project always creates a pre-analysis logfile for every work unit; Selected Work Units opens a modal where you name the logfile, choose Pre-analysis or Post-analysis, and set a few counting options.
The Count Words From choice (Original Source, or Translated Target) matters most once a project has already been pre-translated — see Calculating Costs and Vendor Payments from Target Content for when and why to use it. For what every other field on this modal means, and how to read the logfile you end up with, see All about Logfiles.
5.4 Delete
Permanently deletes the currently selected work units. wxrks asks you to type yes to confirm before it proceeds, and warns that the deletion could affect existing logfiles for the project — a logfile generated before the deletion will still include the word counts for the work units you're about to remove. There's no way to undo this once confirmed.
6. Pre-translation progress bar
If at least one Auto Translate From source is enabled in the project's Translation Settings, wxrks automatically pre-translates the project's empty segments right after it's approved — this is the same underlying process as clicking Translate above, just triggered by approval instead of a manual click.
While it's running, a progress bar takes the place of the toolbar's other controls. Clicking it expands a per-file breakdown showing each file's status (started, completed, or error), its target language, and when it started. If a file shows an error, you can re-run it from the Translate action above — for the whole project or just that work unit.

7. Columns
Click Columns to choose which columns the work unit table shows, and in what order. Toggle any column off to hide it, or drag it by the handle on the left to reorder it. The available columns are File, Created At, Language Pair, Workflow, Status, Progress, Assignee, Due Date, and Delivery Date.
8. Filters
Click Filters to narrow the work unit table down by one or more categories, then click Apply Filters to run them:
Targets: one or more target languages.
Workflows: one or more workflow steps.
Files: a full or partial file name.
Created At, Due Date, Delivery Date: a date range for when the work unit was created, or its due/delivery date.
Assigned to: search for the vendor a work unit's tasks are assigned to.
Content: a word or sentence to search for, in the source and/or target language you specify.
⚠️ You must keep at least one item selected under Targets and Workflows when filtering.
