Proofread
Proofread is one of wxrks's Augmented Actions — an on-demand AI action that checks a single segment's translation for grammar, spelling, and punctuation issues and writes its correction directly into the segment, without changing the translation's overall meaning or structure.

What Proofread does
Proofread sends the segment's current translation to wxrks's AI, along with its source text as a reference, and asks it to improve the translation's grammar, spelling, and punctuation while keeping it faithful to the source's meaning, tone, and style. Anything in the translation that doesn't correspond to something in the source — a stray tag, token, or placeholder — is also cleaned up as part of the same pass.
Because Proofread reads the source segment as context, it isn't limited to catching misspelled words in isolation — it can also flag and fix a sentence that's grammatically fine on its own but doesn't quite match the meaning or tone the source calls for.

How Proofread is different from Spellcheck and the QA Check Tool
wxrks has three separate tools that can all touch grammar or spelling, and it's easy to assume they're the same feature. They aren't — each one runs differently and catches different things.

Proofread and Spellcheck in the Editor overlap the most, since both can touch grammar and spelling — the real difference is how they run. Spellcheck is continuous and word-level, and it always leaves the decision to you, one underline at a time. Proofread is a single action you trigger deliberately on a whole segment, and it applies its full correction immediately, in one pass, without needing you to click through individual suggestions.
The QA Check Tool overlaps far less. It's a broader sweep for structural problems — tags, glossary terms, whitespace, length — run across an entire file before delivery, not a language-quality check. Its optional spelling check is basic and off by default, and it doesn't touch grammar or punctuation at all: the QA Check Tool tells you where to look; Proofread rewrites the language for you.
Before you start
Proofread only appears in the Augmented Actions menu once it's switched on at every level between your account and your own Editor preferences — the Account's Enable Augmented Translation Actions toggle, the Organizational Unit's own Augmented Actions toggle, and your personal Proofread switch in the Editor's Settings panel. Running Proofread on a segment
Select the segment you want to check — click into its target field.
Click the Augmented Actions button in the segment's bottom-right corner.
Choose Proofread from the menu.
Proofread applies its correction immediately — there's no preview or confirmation step first. The example below shows a segment with a deliberate grammar, spelling, and punctuation issue, before and immediately after running Proofread.
Important behavior and edge cases
No preview, no confirmation. Proofread's corrected text replaces the segment's translation the moment it finishes — unlike Alternative Suggestion, it doesn't open a window for you to review the change first.
Every change is logged and reversible. A Proofread edit appears in the segment's Track Changes history like any other change, labeled AI Action - Proofread. If you don't want to keep the result, use the Restore translation (undo) icon on that entry to bring back the previous version.
It stays faithful to the source. Because the AI checks the translation against the source segment's meaning, tone, and style rather than the target text alone, a Proofread correction can reword more than a narrow grammar-only fix would — always in the direction of matching the source more faithfully, never changing what the segment is meant to say.
Troubleshooting
Proofread doesn't appear in the Augmented Actions menu. Confirm it's enabled at all three levels described in Before you start above — the account's Agents settings, the Organizational Unit's toggle, and your own Editor Settings panel.
The Augmented Actions button doesn't appear at all. The button only renders for the segment that's currently selected, and never for a locked segment — click into the segment's target field and confirm it isn't locked.
Proofread ran but the translation looks unchanged. That's expected when the segment is already free of the grammar, spelling, and punctuation issues Proofread checks for — it has nothing to correct.
