Spellcheck in the Editor

How to use, fix, ignore, and manage spellcheck suggestions in the wxrks Editor.

Spellcheck In The Editor

Overview

As you translate, wxrks checks the target text and underlines misspelled words directly in the segment. Click into an underlined word to see suggested fixes, apply one with a click, ignore it for now, or permanently allow it. When AI-powered checking is turned on for the account, the same underlines also catch grammar, punctuation, and style issues, not just misspellings.

Audience And Permissions

  • Any translator or reviewer working in the Editor sees spellcheck underlines automatically, for language pairs wxrks supports.

  • Adding a word permanently to the allowed-words list ("Add to Dictionary") requires the "Add Terms to Spell Check Exception List" Editor permission, granted by an admin through role management. Without it, you can still apply suggestions and use "Ignore," but the "Add to Dictionary" option won't appear.

  • Turning on AI-powered checking (Active SpellCheck) and managing the Spell Check Exception List both require Account Admin or Project Manager access.

Turn Spellcheck On Or Off For Your Editor View

  1. Open a work unit in the Editor.

  2. Click the Settings icon in the right-hand sidebar.

  3. Under Your Preferences > Translation Preferences, toggle Enable Spellcheck.

This is a personal display preference. It only affects what you see — it doesn't turn spellcheck on or off for other translators or reviewers.

Reviewing And Fixing A Flagged Issue

  1. As you type or open a segment, flagged text is underlined directly in the target field.

  2. Click the underlined text, or move your cursor into it, to open the suggestion popover just below it.

  1. The popover header shows the issue type in color (Spelling, Punctuation, or Grammar/Style) and, when available, a short explanation.

  2. Click a suggested replacement to apply it immediately.

  3. If wxrks suggests removing the flagged text entirely, that option appears as [Remove].

  4. If there's no suggested fix, the popover shows "No suggestions available" — correct the text manually.

Spellcheck underlines aren't shown on segments that are already confirmed. If you reopen a confirmed segment for editing, underlines reappear as needed.

Ignoring An Issue For This Session

Screenshare - 2026-07-17 11_17_06 AM.mp4 [video-to-gif output image]

  1. Open the popover for the issue.

  2. Click Ignore.

The underline disappears right away, but only for your current editing session. If you leave and come back to the segment later, the same word can be flagged again. Use "Add to Dictionary" instead when a word should never be flagged again.

Adding A Word To The Dictionary

If you have the required permission and the project's Spell Check Exception List is enabled, the popover also shows an Add to Dictionary option:

  1. Open the popover for the word you want to permanently allow.

  2. Check Case sensitive if the word should only be allowed with this exact capitalization.

  3. Click Add to Dictionary.

The word is saved to the project's Spell Check Exception List and won't be flagged again in that project.

If "Add to Dictionary" doesn't appear, either your role doesn't have the required permission, or the Spell Check Exception List isn't enabled for the project — see below.

Turning On AI-Powered Checking (Active SpellCheck)

Active SpellCheck requires Augmented Translation Actions to already be enabled for the account.

  1. Go to Settings > Translation Settings > Agents.

  2. Under Augmented Translation Actions, find the Active SpellCheck card.

  3. Turn on the switch.

Once enabled, spellcheck in the Editor also flags grammar, punctuation, and style issues, shown with the matching orange or blue underline, in addition to basic spelling.

Managing The Spell Check Exception List

The Spell Check Exception List can be managed at two levels:

  • Project level: open the project and go to its Context tab.

  • Organizational Unit level: open the organizational unit and go to its Context tab. Terms added here apply to every project in that unit.

To manage the list:

  1. Open Spell Check Exception List.

  2. If it shows Disabled, click the toggle to enable it. This is required before terms can be added here, and before "Add to Dictionary" appears in the Editor for that project.

  3. Click Add New Term to add words directly. Enter one or more words separated by commas, choose the language, and choose whether the match is case sensitive.

  4. Use the edit and delete icons on a row to update or permanently remove a term.

Disabling the list at the organizational unit level disables it for every project under that unit, even projects where it was individually enabled. wxrks asks you to confirm before this happens.

Troubleshooting

  • No underlines appear at all: confirm "Enable Spellcheck" is on in the Editor's Settings panel, confirm the segment isn't already confirmed, and confirm the target language is supported for spellcheck.

  • "Add to Dictionary" is missing from the popover: you likely don't have the required permission, or the Spell Check Exception List isn't enabled for the project. Check both.

  • A word keeps getting flagged again after you Ignore it: Ignore only lasts for your current editing session. Use "Add to Dictionary" for a permanent fix.

  • Only spelling issues show up, no grammar or punctuation issues: Active SpellCheck may not be enabled for the account. An admin can turn it on under Settings > Translation Settings > Agents.
