How to configure custom review categories

Set up your own review change categories in Account Settings and choose whether reviewers see them alongside or instead of wxrks' standard categories.

In the Review workflow step, wxrks asks the reviewer to pick a category that explains why a change was made to the translator's work. wxrks ships with a set of standard categories, but an Account Admin can add custom ones for the reasons that matter most to your own organization's quality standards, and choose whether reviewers see them alongside or instead of the standard set.

💡 Who is this for? This guide is for Account Admins who need to create and manage custom review categories for their organization.

Where to find this setting

Go to Settings > Account Settings > Business, then open the Custom Review Categories tab. This page is only visible to Account Admins.

By default, the Active Review Categories list shows only the six standard categories every account starts with, each marked with a System badge. For what each of those means and how they affect a translator's quality score, see Translation changes categories in wxrks.

Turning on custom categories

Switch on Enable Custom Review Categories at the top of the tab. This reveals an Add a new Custom Review Category form next to the Active Review Categories list — it doesn't remove the standard categories, it just makes it possible to add your own alongside them.

Adding a custom category

With custom categories enabled, fill in the Add a new Custom Review Category form:

  • Name: up to 50 characters. This is what reviewers see in the category dropdown.

  • Description: shown to reviewers when they hover the info icon (ⓘ) next to the category name — use it to explain when this category should be used.

Click Save. The new category appears right below the standard ones in Active Review Categories, without a System badge — that's how you can tell your custom categories apart from the built-in ones. You can add as many custom categories as you need.

Editing or deleting a custom category

Custom categories can be changed after creation — standard (System) categories cannot, since they're fixed at the platform level. Click the pencil icon next to a custom category to open edit mode:

  • Update the name and/or description, then click Save.

  • Click the trash icon to permanently delete the category.

  • Click the X to close edit mode without saving.

Showing only your custom categories

If you'd rather reviewers only see your own categories, turn on Use Custom Review Categories Only at the top of the Active Review Categories list. This hides every standard category from the list and from reviewers — only your custom categories remain selectable. Turn it off at any time to bring the standard categories back.

How custom categories appear to reviewers

Once created, a custom category behaves exactly like a standard one: it shows up in the same dropdown a reviewer uses to categorize a change during the Review workflow step, and it's used and reported on the same way — including in the Quality Module's Reviews and Reports.

Troubleshooting

I can't find the Custom Review Categories tab. This page lives under Settings > Account Settings > Business and is only visible to Account Admins. If you don't see Account Settings in the sidebar at all, you don't have that role.

My new category isn't showing up for reviewers. Confirm Enable Custom Review Categories is still switched on — turning it off hides the custom-category form, but existing custom categories stay in the Active Review Categories list either way. Also check whether Use Custom Review Categories Only is on, since that hides the standard categories, not your custom ones.

Can I hide just one or two standard categories, and keep the rest? Not currently — Use Custom Review Categories Only is all-or-nothing: it's either every standard category is visible, or none of them are.

Still stuck? Search the wxrks Community or reach out to [email protected].
