Video Preview (covered from the linguist's side in How to Use the Video Preview in wxrks) only shows a player once a video or audio file has been attached to the work unit being translated. That attach step happens on the project side, before any linguist opens the Editor — this article covers it.

💡 Who is this for? This guide is for a Project Manager or Account Admin setting up a subtitle project so its linguists can use Video Preview.

The work unit needs a subtitle-format source file — .srt, .vtt, .ass, or .ssa — for Video Preview to be relevant at all. Attaching a media file to any other file type doesn't break anything, but the linguist's Preview panel won't have subtitles to overlay on it.

Open the project and go to its Reference Files tab. The Media Files section has its own Upload Media button, separate from Reference Files and Review Files above it.

Click Upload Media. If the project has more than one work unit, a dropdown asks which one the file belongs to before you pick the file itself.

Once it's uploaded, the file appears in the Media Files list against the work unit it's attached to — that's your confirmation it worked.

You can also upload media for one specific work unit without going through the Reference Files tab: on the project's file list, open that work unit's ⋮ menu and choose Upload Media directly.

You can upload a new file to the same work unit at any time — there's no need to remove the old one first. The Editor's Video Preview always plays whichever file was uploaded most recently, so re-uploading is the way to swap in a corrected cut or a higher-quality export mid-project.
