Explains the XLSX preview feature in the wxrks Editor.

Previewing XLSX Spreadsheet Files in the wxrks Editor

Overview

This article provides a comprehensive guide to previewing XLSX spreadsheet files (Excel files) within the wxrks Editor. The preview feature allows users to view, navigate, and interact with complex spreadsheets without downloading the original file, maintaining the complete formatting and visual elements of the original Excel document.

This functionality is designed to enhance review, translation, and QA processes, making them more efficient and user-friendly. The preview supports standard XLSX files and includes advanced configuration options—such as multilingual handling and data transformation parameters—which can be defined during file upload or setup to optimize your workflow.

1. File Compatibility

The preview feature is fully compatible with standard XLSX spreadsheet files, supporting a wide range of Excel features, formatting, and embedded elements. Both simple and complex spreadsheets can be previewed without loss of formatting or structure. The feature works seamlessly with files generated by Microsoft Excel and other applications that support the XLSX format.

During file upload or configuration, you can also specify options for multilingual spreadsheets (where content in multiple languages is managed within the same file) and data transformation (custom handling of how data is extracted and presented in the preview). These settings help ensure the most accurate and effective localization workflow possible.

2. Accessing the XLSX Preview

When an XLSX file is opened in the wxrks Editor, the preview loads automatically. In the Editor's preview menu, it's listed as Spreadsheet Preview. This enables users to inspect spreadsheet content directly within the platform, eliminating the need for external software.

3. Navigating Multiple Sheets

Users can switch between different sheets in a spreadsheet using tabs located in the preview area.

  • Each tab corresponds to a worksheet from the original file.

  • Select any tab to view the content of a specific sheet.

4. Adjustable Zoom (50–200%)

Users can adjust the zoom level for better readability and convenience:

  • Zoom levels range from 50% to 200%.

  • Use the Zoom out and Zoom in buttons to change the zoom in 10% steps.

5. Conditional Formatting Support

The preview supports conditional formatting, displaying cells with their respective rules and visual cues.

  • Rules that change a cell's fill or font color are shown as configured in Excel. Color scales, data bars, and icon sets aren't currently rendered in the preview.

Animation of the Task Plan sheet in the preview: the Status cells keep the colors of the spreadsheet's conditional formatting rules (green for Done, red for Blocked); Fullscreen is clicked and the whole sheet is shown with the same formatting.

6. Image Rendering

All images embedded in the spreadsheet are rendered in the preview:

  • This includes both in-cell images and floating images within the worksheet.

7. Column & Row Resizing

Users can resize columns and rows directly in the preview interface:

  • Simply drag the edges of columns or rows to adjust their size as needed.

Animation of the Task Plan sheet in fullscreen preview: the border of column B is dragged to the right to widen the column, then the border of row 1 is dragged down to make the header row taller.

8. Horizontal Scrolling for Wide Spreadsheets

For spreadsheets that extend beyond the visible area, a horizontal scroll bar is available:

  • Easily navigate through wide spreadsheets by using the horizontal scrollbar.
