Docs Preview renders your file as a real, paginated document inside the Editor — the same layout a reader would see in the final output — so you can check formatting and context without downloading anything.
💡 Who is this for? This guide is for a Vendor translating or reviewing a document-format file, and for a Project Manager or Account Admin checking how a file renders.
Which files use Docs Preview
wxrks picks a preview mode automatically based on the file type. Docs Preview is used for document and slide formats: Word (.doc, .docx, .dot, .dotx and their macro-enabled variants), PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx and its variants), Excel templates (.xlt, .xltx, .xltm), OpenDocument files (.odt, .ott, .odp, .otp, .odg, .otg, .ods, .ots), PDF, Visio (.vsdx), Keynote (.key), Pages, and Numbers. Other formats get their own dedicated preview — Code Preview, Web Preview, and Video Preview are covered in their own articles (linked below).
ℹ️ Note: For Pages, Keynote and Numbers files, the preview is an approximation, not Apple's own rendering. A Numbers file shows as a spreadsheet with one tab per sheet. Opening Docs Preview
Open your task in the Editor. If the Preview panel isn't already showing, click the eye icon in the top bar to open it, then use the mode icon (☰) at the bottom of the panel's own left-edge toolbar to switch to Docs Preview. For most document files, this is already the default mode, so you may not need to switch at all.
The Docs Preview toolbar
Everything in Docs Preview is controlled from one toolbar at the top of the panel: the file name and page count on the left, then a row of view options and controls.
Show all pages (the stacked-layers icon) — on by default, this scrolls through every page of the document in one continuous view. Turn it off to view and navigate one page at a time.
Highlight segment (the highlighter icon) — see the next section.
Rotate (left/right arrows) — rotates the current view in 90° steps; the number between the two buttons shows the current rotation and resets it back to 0° when clicked.
Zoom — the magnifying-glass buttons zoom out and in; the percentage between them resets zoom to 100% when clicked.
Fit panel width (the ↔ icon) — scales the page to fill the panel's width instead of showing it at its natural size.
Refresh — reloads the preview. Unlike Code Preview or Web Preview, Docs Preview updates on its own shortly after you edit a segment, so you'll rarely need this — it's there for the odd case where it doesn't.
Navigating pages
Turn off Show all pages to get page-by-page navigation instead of continuous scrolling — arrows on either side of a page X / Y counter move one page at a time.
Highlighting the segment you're working on
Turn on Highlight segment and click any segment in the list — Docs Preview finds that text in the rendered document and highlights it, so you can see exactly where a line lands on the page without hunting for it visually. This is a display aid only; it doesn't change the document itself.
