How to create an Organization or Organizational Unit

Step-by-step instructions for creating a new Organization and Organizational Unit in wxrks, including which fields are required and who has permission to create each one.

This article walks through the actual screens and fields for creating a new Organization or Organizational Unit in wxrks. If you're not yet sure what these two entities are or how they relate to your Account, read Accounts, Organizations and Organizational Units first — this guide assumes you already know the concept and just need the steps.

💡 Who is this for? This guide is for Account Admins who need to create a new Organization or Organizational Unit in wxrks.

Creating an Organization

Only users with the Account Admin role can create an Organization. Any Organization you create is added to your own Account automatically — Accounts themselves are set up by wxrks when a company is onboarded to the platform, not from within the app.

  1. From the sidebar, open Organizations, then select Organizations. On the Organizations list, click Add Organization.

  1. Fill in the form and click Create:

  • 1. Name — the Organization's full name. Required.

  • 2. Country — the country where the Organization is mainly located. Required.

  • 3. Organizational Units — optionally associate one or more existing Organizational Units with this Organization right away. Not required — you can always add or create Organizational Units later.

If you click + New Org Unit inside the Organizational Units field instead of picking an existing one, a small window opens to draft a brand-new Organizational Unit without leaving this page.

Once you click Create, wxrks confirms the Organization was saved and takes you to its Information tab:

From here, you can configure Associations, Prices, Hierarchy View, MT Settings and Custom Fields — all covered in All about Organizations.

Creating an Organizational Unit

Account Admins can create Organizational Units. Every Organizational Unit must belong to an Organization, so you'll need at least one Organization to already exist (or create one on the spot from this form, described below) before you can finish this flow.

  1. From the sidebar, open Organizations, then select Organizational Units. On the list, click Add Organizational Unit.

  1. Fill in the form:

  • 1. Organization — the parent Organization this unit belongs to. Pick an existing one, or click + New Organization in this same dropdown to create one first if you don't have one yet.

  • 2. Contact Person — the unit's default point of contact. The person you choose needs to already be registered as a wxrks user.

  • 3. Name — the Organizational Unit's name (for example, a client, department, or division).

You'll also set the unit's Country, Currency and Timezone — these don't auto-fill from each other, so pick each one independently.

A completed form looks like this before you click Create:

  1. Click Create. You'll be redirected to the new Organizational Unit's General tab, where the rest of its settings live — see All about Organizational Units for what each one does.

Two things are worth knowing before you create an Organizational Unit: its parent Organization can't be changed afterward — wxrks doesn't support moving an Organizational Unit (or its Translation Memories and Glossaries) to a different Organization once created, to protect the integrity of that data. And an Organizational Unit can't be deleted from the interface — if you create one by mistake, contact [email protected].
