Alternative Suggestion

Request an independent AI rewording of a segment, ignoring TM, glossary, and MT — a genuine second opinion, not a variation on what your TM already suggests.

Alternative Suggestion

Alternative Suggestion is one of wxrks's Augmented Actions — instead of blending your Translation Memories, Machine Translation, and glossaries into a suggestion the way the other AI actions do, it deliberately ignores all three and reacts only to the segment's source text and whatever you've already written in the target box. wxrks opens a window with the suggested rewording and an explanation of the reasoning behind it, so you get a genuinely independent second opinion instead of one reinforced by what's already in your TM. (This is a different feature from Alternative Translations, used for transcreation-style projects — see Related Articles below if that's what you're looking for instead.)

💡 Who is this for? This guide is for any user with Editor access who needs to request an independent AI rewording of a segment, without TM, glossary, or MT influence within the wxrks platform.

What Alternative Suggestion actually sends to the AI

The request behind Alternative Suggestion includes exactly two things about your content: the segment's source text and whatever is currently in the target box. If you've already drafted a translation, the AI reacts to that draft; if the target is still empty, it works from the source alone. It does not attach any Translation Memory matches, any glossary or termbase entries, or any Machine Translation output — the richer, TM/glossary/MT-aware request that powers Context Sensitive Translate is deliberately not reused here. That's what makes the result a genuine second opinion rather than a variation on whatever your TM or MT already suggested.

If the segment has a target character limit configured, the suggestion is constrained to fit it, the same as any other Augmented Action.

Requesting an Alternative Suggestion

Alternative Suggestion is available both while translating and while reviewing a segment:

  1. In the Editor, select the segment you want a second opinion on.

  2. Click the Augmented Actions button that appears in the segment's bottom-right corner.

  3. Choose Alternative Suggestion from the menu.

wxrks calls the AI immediately and shows a brief loading state ("Generating an alternative suggestion...") while it works — this typically takes anywhere from a few seconds up to around 30 seconds, depending on the AI provider configured for your account.

Reading the result

The window shows two things stacked together: the AI's suggested rewording of the segment, followed by a short explanation of why it made those choices — word order, register, terminology, phrasing, and so on.

There's no Apply or Regenerate button in this window — it's a reference view only. If you like the suggestion, copy the parts you want into your own target translation by hand; if you don't, click Close and keep working with what you already had. Nothing about the segment changes just from opening this window.

Good to know

  • Requesting an Alternative Suggestion for the same segment again shortly after may return the exact same wording — wxrks briefly caches identical AI requests to save time and cost. Edit your current translation (even slightly) or wait a few minutes if you want a genuinely fresh pass.

  • There's no separate limit on how many times you can request one — it's covered by the same Augmented Actions availability as the rest of the menu (see below), not a quota of its own.

  • If your account or Organizational Unit has a custom OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, or Google Gemini connection configured in Model Management, Alternative Suggestion uses that provider automatically, the same as the other Augmented Actions.

Turning it off for yourself

Alternative Suggestion is on by default whenever Augmented Actions are enabled for your account and Organizational Unit — an Account Admin controls that level; see wxrks Augmented Actions for the full Account → Organizational Unit → user chain.

If you personally don't want to see it in your own menu, open the Editor's Settings panel and turn off Enable Alternative Suggestion — this only affects your own view, not your teammates'. The toggle stays grayed out until Augmented Actions are enabled above your level.

  • wxrks Augmented Actions — the full set of AI-powered Editor actions Alternative Suggestion belongs to, including how to turn Augmented Actions on for your Account and Organizational Unit.

  • Augmented Term Lookup — a related but independent AI feature that suggests inflected forms of glossary terms in the Suggestions tab as you translate.

  • How to Use Alternative Translations for Transcreation in wxrks — a different, similarly named feature: use this one if you want to add several candidate translations to a segment yourself (with back translation and comments), not a single AI-generated rewording.
